Antonin Nechodoma Architect, The Prairie School in the Caribbean
by Thomas S. Marvel

In the tropical islands of the Caribbean, far from America's heartland, an improbable number of homes in the Prairie Style of architecture dot the landscape. this book brings to light the life and work of the shadowy architect of these remarkable buildings.

This book, profusely illustrated with nearly 200 photographs and drawings, includes a bibliography of Nechodoma's published projects from 1908 to 1927 and a list of the location, dates, and current status of all his projects.

Puerto Rico 1900. Turn-of-the-Century Architecture in the Hispanic Caribbean 1890-1930
by Jorge Rigau Introduction by Leon Krier

Between 1890 and 1930 Puerto Rico experienced a cultural transformation from an agrarian society to an industrial one. Accelerated growth and urban consolidation ensued, and architects borrowed from European classicism, Catalonian modernismo, the Spanish Revival, and Art Deco, among other styles, to forge an evocative and unique Caribbean architecture.

Puerto Rico 1900 is a detailed examination of the products and the influences of the rich heritage. Each heavily illustrated chapter is devoted to one important aspect of this period, including the new facade treatments, the spatial sequences, and the thematic links between architecture and Latin American and Puerto Rican literature of the period.

HAVANA / La Habana
by Nancy Stout and Jorge Rigau

Havana: vibrant center of the Antilles, land of famous hotels and nightclubs, city of lush colors and eclectic architecture, oasis of tropical beaches and royal palm trees, host to Hemingway and many others writers-and most recently, home of Castro and the Communist dictatorship that has closed it to most Americans for decades.

Photographer Nancy Stout and writer Jorge Rigau have taken several trips to Cuba to create their deeply affectionate but realist portrait of this most beautiful and magical of Caribbean cities. They have come back with a wealth of photographs and information that appears for first time in this book.
