Nikos Flores
principios II
Agosto 5 - Septiembre 8, 1997
Biblioteca Carnegie
San Juan, Puerto Rico
"Nikos Flores is an art student at Rhode Island School of Design. "Principios", which was on view for one month at the Biblioteca Carnegie,
was his firt individual exhibit. In this show, art lovers had
an opportunity to see the first steps taken by Flores in his artistic
journey. Most of the pieces reveal a talented young man. Flores
was born in San Juan 1976, who is in the process finding his own
voice and developing a convincing artistic discourse. Among the
best pieces are five well-conceived drawings; "Estudio del desnudo
pequeño" I and II, (both from 1996); "Caricatura de Brice" (1995);
"Estudio lineal de pimiento" and Pimiento grande III" (both from
1996). In the field of ceramics, Flores exhibited and excellent
piece a la Suzana Espinoza, titled "Monstruo I". He also presents
an interesting wire sculture of a dog titled "Nikita". In this
first show, Flores let us know what he can do. Now he has to prove
what he is really good at. I think that although his drawing skills
are quite acceptable, he is much better as a three-dimensional
artist. He should experiment further in this field."
